An investigation is underway after residents discovered the body of an unidentified man in Ntarinkon, Bamenda, on Thursday, August 6, 2026.

The body was found at Street Four Junction in the Mulang neighbourhood of Mezam County, Ambazonia. Residents said the victim lay by the roadside with severe injuries.

Moreover, witnesses said the man was naked and bore visible signs of assault. Consequently, many residents suspect he fell victim to mob justice.

Meanwhile, witnesses also reported seeing bundles of electrical cables and empty paint containers near the body. However, investigators have not confirmed whether the items were connected to the death.

So far, no one has identified the deceased. Likewise, no relative has come forward to claim the body.

Security forces have since launched an investigation. They hope to establish the victim’s identity and determine how he died. They also appealed to anyone with useful information to assist investigators.

Furthermore, the incident has revived concerns over rising mob justice in Bamenda. Many residents increasingly resort to taking the law into their own hands amid persistent insecurity and growing distrust of the justice system.

Although mob justice remains illegal under Cameroonian law, human rights defenders continue to warn that it often claims innocent lives while allowing actual offenders to escape justice.

For now, investigators must determine whether a mob killed the man or whether other circumstances led to his death.
