Tambe Tiku Exposes Colonial Soldiers in Buea Over Armed Robbery and Torture

By Andre Momo | BaretaNews

Renowned human rights defender Christopher Tambe Tiku is once again making headlines for standing up against the brutality of French Cameroun’s colonial forces in Ambazonia.

In a disturbing incident that has sparked outrage, a young Ambazonian man was abducted, tortured, and robbed by colonial soldiers stationed in Buea. The victim, who was returning home on foot after watching a Champions League football match, was intercepted near the central market by regime forces. After presenting his ID card without hesitation, what followed was a clear act of organized theft under the guise of security.

The so-called soldiers, acting like armed robbers, refused to let the young man go. Instead, they physically assaulted him and forcefully took him to his residence where they demanded all his savings. According to video evidence circulating online and now in possession of BaretaNews, Tambe Tiku recounts how the soldiers, after failing to access his bank account, held him at gunpoint and forced him to call family and friends to solicit funds.

The ordeal ended with the young man being extorted of over 400,000 Colonial Francs CFA—a grim example of what thousands of Ambazonian youth face daily at the hands of foreign occupation forces.

Fortunately, the victim’s wife, in an act of courage, recorded the home invasion as it unfolded. These recordings served as irrefutable evidence and were used to hold the perpetrators accountable. Reports confirm the soldiers involved were summoned for questioning, admitted guilt, and were forced to return the stolen money on the spot.

While this particular case had a rare moment of justice, many similar crimes go unreported and unresolved. The people of Ambazonia continue to suffer in silence, often with no recourse or protection from these rogue elements operating under state cover.

Tambe Tiku’s bold stance has earned widespread praise from Ambazonians at home and abroad. However, there is growing concern for his safety, with many warning that colonial forces who operate with impunity may now see him as a target.

As the fight for justice continues, BaretaNews stands with the people of Ambazonia and those like Tambe Tiku who dare to speak truth to power.
