The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Buea, Dr. Nalova Lyonga is organizing the first campus open week to potential students who seek admissions into the University of Buea. The one-week open week is meant to orientate students on which academic programs to apply for in the University based on their Advance level certifications.
The Press release signed on 25 July 2016 reads ” The University of Buea is happy to announce that it will be opening its gates both campus and virtual between Monday 8th and Friday 12th of August 2016. With this inaugural open week, the University intends to facilitate potential students’ admission into the 2016/2017 academic year. ”
The release further stated ” the school campus, social media pages, campus radio and students’ affairs hotline will be open for a week to applicants in need of counseling and direction to what degree program is most suitable for them”
Potential students/applicants who make it to campus for the open week will not only benefit from one-on-one counseling and guidance from an on-the-ground team, but equally enjoy a campus tour led by student ambassadors-the release concluded.
BaretaNews notes that this is a good move from the University. Most often than not, students are confused on what to apply in the University. Some will apply to programs due to peer pressures, family advises but not on what they really want. This is a good opportunity for potential UB students to engage into. The University has now many professional programs, it is an opportunity for potential students to engage and understands what they really want to do. Despite the shortcomings in Cameroon’s educational system, it is important potential students seize this rare opportunity provided by the University.
BaretaNews salutes this effort.
God is still saying something.
