A road traffic accident was recorded on the night of January 19, 2026, near the Finance Building in Bamenda, after a speeding vehicle crashed into a construction culvert. No lives were lost, but the vehicle suffered some damage.

Despite visible road barricades warning motorists of ongoing construction, the driver reportedly ignored the safety measures. Eyewitnesses say the vehicle, travelling at high speed, lost control, rammed into one of the barricades, and plunged into a culvert currently under construction.

The impact left the car badly damaged, drawing attention from passersby and nearby residents. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries. Both the driver and passengers reportedly escaped unhurt.

The incident has once again highlighted concerns over reckless driving in urban areas. It also underscores the urgent need for motorists to respect road signs and exercise caution, especially around construction zones where risks are high.
