AMBAZONIA v. LA REPUBLIQUE DU CAMEROUN: PASSAGE OF RESOLUTION HR 358 IN THE US CALLING FOR FEDERATION IN THE CAMEROONS IS A STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION
The passage of resolution HR 358 calling for Federation in Cameroons is a positive step in the right direction. Those who have been listening to my interviews or have been reading what I have been writing would hold conclusion with me on this issue.
I have repeatedly stated that the default position in international law is to maintain the existing State, whether de facto or the jure State instead of creating new ones. The creation of new States is usually resisted unless the State contesting it gives up or the international community realizes that there is no way to maintain the State.
America initially said breaking Sudan was not feasible, and said similar for Eritrea. As I have stated repeatedly, as we are going into mediation in Switzerland, the international community will use all types of pressure to force Federation on us in order to maintain the existing State.
The US has dropped the gauntlet by passing Resolution 358 and other European countries will follow soon in one shape or another in order to force a fait accompli on us in Switzerland. This was bound to happen. Boris Johnson after welcoming Yang Philemon had supported Decentralization as the solution in Cameroon so his government will soon pass something similar calling for Federation in Cameroun also.
This fait accompli Federation will be forced down our throats in Switzerland and if we resist, these countries will move the pressure higher by threatening deportations, sanctions, and finally threaten prosecution for various crimes including war crimes against those leaders that keep resisting.
The good thing is that after 2 years of fighting, we have reached the inevitable stage where Federation is forced down our throats. We will resist and keep resisting no matter the pressure on us. It is a non-starter and we cannot even contemplate it. They will want to turn the mediation into a dispute on types of Federation i.e. 10 states, 4 states, 2 states or Confederation but we would rather die than accept.
Once the international community realizes that we cannot and shall not, contemplate Federation, they will graduate to Confederation hoping we will accept and again we will resist. The fighting will continue and until more deaths and the humanitarian situation deteriorates further will the international community contemplate a two State solution.
Conclusion
The passage of Resolution 358 is a step in the right direction. It was inevitable that Federation will be forced on us first by the international community hence the earlier they bring it the better. We are going into Mediation now knowing what we are up against. They wanted this passed before mediation starts to contain our ambitions but they will not succeed. No other country or countries can force a people to be part of another country or associate with another country. We had our independence already and we will defend it with our blood.
The resolution has come and gone so we increase our resistance. PLEASE FUND YOUR COUNTY AND LGAs. This step of forcing Federation on us at the beginning was inevitable and it is a positive step that it has come early in the process so that we can resist and show the international community that it is a non-starter.
Similar suggestions were advanced in Ethiopia and South Sudan but they resisted the fait accompli which the international community tried to impose on them. The early passage of Resolution HR 358 is a good step in the right direction. It is better we cross this bridge right at the beginning of mediation. Things are falling into place. The expected hurdle is now in front of us and we will crush it only with determination and the willingness to die for what is ours
