Kenya Airways has suspended its passenger flight operations between Nairobi and Douala, dealing yet another blow to international air connectivity in La République du Cameroun.

The Kenyan national carrier announced that the suspension took effect on June 19, 2026, describing the decision as part of a broader network restructuring strategy to improve operational efficiency across its route network. The airline did not indicate when services on the Nairobi-Douala route would resume, leaving uncertainty for travellers and businesses that depend on the connection between East Africa and the Gulf of Guinea.

The latest move comes only weeks after Royal Air Maroc also suspended its operations to Cameroun, raising fresh concerns about the gradual reduction of international airlines serving the country. The withdrawal of two major African carriers in a short period has raised questions about the market’s attractiveness and viability for international operators.

For many travellers from Ambazonia, particularly those transiting through Douala to destinations across Africa and beyond, the suspension is expected to create additional travel difficulties and reduce available routing options. Douala remains the principal international gateway for many Southern Cameroonians despite the ongoing socio-political crisis affecting the former British Southern Cameroons.

Kenya Airways has advised passengers affected by the suspension to seek refunds or modify their bookings. The airline says customers will be allowed to make changes to existing reservations or request reimbursement up to August 31, 2026.

With no timeline provided for the restoration of the route, observers will be watching closely to see whether the suspension is temporary or signals a longer-term withdrawal from the Cameroun market.
