Former UBSU President

In response to an open editorial from Mr Chris Anu, CEO of Cameroon Journal, Mr Atanga Maxcelius, Former University of Buea Students Union President has written an open letter to the editor of Cameroon journal. In his letter, he cautioned that he writes as a concerned Southern Cameroonian and not as a Community Mobilization officer for SCACUF. He says the act of Cameroon Journal Editor calling SCACUF Unity as Sarcasm is tantamount to treason against the people of Southern Cameroons. Read on:

Focus; your article titled: The truth is that we still don’t have a united front.
Dear Mr Editor,

First, let me appreciate your efforts in this struggle for the liberation of Southern Cameroons/Ambazonia. Of course, it’s your duty to fight for your own freedom. I have followed you over the weeks with keen interest in your broad scope on a range of issues, your mastery of the microphone and your captivating articulation/Voice.
Your recent article in which you kind of rubbish SCACUF is uncalled for. I will randomly select some points from your article and analyse them before I draw my conclusions.

1) To call SCACUF resolution for unity sarcasm at it’s best , is more or less treason of the first order to the people of southern Cameroons. Let me explain: First sarcasm will mean it preaches the opposite of what it stands for. That is not true SCACUF is for UNITY and NOT DIVISIVENESS. When we talk about unity we mean two or more entities coming together and in this case working together. How they coming/ working together depends on several factors. In some scenario people are forced to work together e.g at your job site where teamwork is required hence the working rules are dictated by the boss or employer.

In the case of SCACUF the groups willfully agreed to work together so they all have the responsibility to work out the modus operandi. How they do that and when they do it will depend on them for they know better the challenges. First let’s get this clear there is no perfect organization on the surface earth or a perfect people. We may have some challenges such as delay in having the modus operandi of SCACUF and how money comes in and goes out but the people of southern Cameroons have given SCACUF their blessings and will support SCACUF to overcome.

Hence to come out and rubbish what Southern Cameroonians have worked for sleeplessly for months is not acceptable. May be I should bring to your attention the fact that since the formation of SCACUF the panic in the LRC regime has grown leaps and bounds. How dare you try to pull us down and hand us over to LRC. Are you aware that they are looking for the least opening to penetrate?

2) Your confusion about MORISC and SCACUF is uncalled for, as MORISC itself is under SCACUF. If for some reasons MORISC make public pronouncements contradicting the position of SCACUF the other liberation movements are watching and will bring MORISC to order. You as a journalist should know better the difference between offensive and defensive journalism . In your opening statement you say WE STIIL DON’T HAVE A UNITED FRONT meaning you consider yourself a Southern Cameroonian, so in all this seek for fame and recognition while brandishing others power mongers who are you defending? By saying there are no features of unity with SCACUF is wanton dishonesty or acute ignorance. These guys have forgone their busy schedule, pay large sums of money for flights, spend sleepless in consultation with each other, came up with a joint statement and within a week have joint public appearances.

3) The interim government is premature, I agree with you on that but I disagree with the arguments you advanced. First this struggle is not at infancy, and the creation of interim government does not depend on time but on pre required achievements: such as lobbying for a friendly country to help us host and protect our interim government and consolidation of the united front. So to view the request for interim government as power mongering is tantamount to suing bad seeds.

First who are you in person because it will be important that we address people. Of course I am not the author of the quote “ It’s better to deal with a known devil than an unknown angel.” Your listeners or readers or viewers will like to know you in person. We should not waste our time addressing La Republic Du Cameroon in disguise. One never knows as LRC is looking for every means to infiltrate and rubbish our struggle we should be vigilant. So I will state here that you should take responsibility for all you say and do not hide behind Cameroon Journal. So after your write up or audio text please present yourself. On the other hand, if you are afraid to show your face like others for fear of LRC then you better shut up than call other names and victimise them if you consider that harm’s way.

  1. Thank you sir; its easy to sit at home and criticised forgeting that many of thses guys have sarcrisfied alot to reach this level and have denied nobody coming forward with ideas or taking art. we should be strong in acting and not siting at and home and comlaining others. Its our duty to rest at all levels. the struggle continue in Unity

  2. Note these criticizers mentioned in the article are people with no good intentions. Nothing wrong with good criticism that would rather further the goal of the Southern Cameroon/Ambazonia liberation but criticism just for the pleasure of criticizing or longing to be noticed by whoever, is wrong.

  3. There was a time where variables such as criticism were functional objects that our mental, psychological liberation processes and physical functioning operated on.

    That day is over.

As we Southern Cameroon move forward in the new time space, it’s with a complete different psychology and personality. If LRC can’t even influence us, what then some piece of text on paper. We wellcome everything but nothing can turn us back.

Our leaders and people are not Gods, but we are determine and we all stand together, this and only this counts.

  4. SCACUF leads and we fully stand behind them. In unity we are strong. Let LRC have sleepless nights.

Our MPs shall immediately resign from the East Cameroonian parliament.

  5. What is the editor of the Cameroon journal out to prove? If he has nothing positive to contribute to the ongoing struggle, why can’t he just shut up? We don’t need any distractions at the crucial time, and will view any such attempts to distract from this fight unkindly
