Cameroon’s Deep Sea divers from Navy and the Rapid Intervention Battalion in Limbe and Isongo have recovered four corpses from the BIR logistics vessels that wrecked off the shores of Dibunsha in Southern Cameroons. The team of underwater wielders is still struggling to break open the main door of the vessel where it is believed most of the corpses could be found.

The rescuers pulled out the first two bodies on Wednesday, 19th July 2017 but rescue efforts were suspended due to poor weather conditions. The ship wrecked on Sunday, 16th July 2017 while transporting supplies and other logistics to Bakassi. Traces of fuel were identified by helicopter patrols and maritime rescue teams searched the zone and identified the wrecked vessel at the sea bed some 40 meter deep.

Rescuers have been battling to cut open the ship and extract the remaining corpses. Inside sources explained that a security cordon has been created around the area where the ship has been located to prevent waves from sweeping the corpses away. As the recovery efforts continuous, the National Gendarmerie is leading an investigation to establish the exact cause of the accident in which 34 Cameroonian soldiers are believed to have perished.
