The body charged with the organization of elections ELECAM in La Republique Du Cameroun-LRC is quite confident it could conduct presidential polls in the Southern Cameroons even as tensions between Restoration Forces and troops of LRC army deepens. The presidential election has been billed for October 7, 2018, six days after the Southern Cameroons Independence celebrations.

The territory of the Federal Republic of Ambazonia has been prone to gun battle, razing of property, raids and the indiscriminate killings of unarmed civilians which has forced many internally displaced people to flee to the bushes and many others seeking refuge in neighboring Nigeria with the United Nations Refugee Agency estimating over 20,000.

ELECAM officials are quite certain elections will hold in Ambazonia despite the ungovernable circumstances on the ground faced by the Yaounde regime. Meanwhile, the elections organizers are putting the responsibility to maintain peace and security on the shoulders of the government in order for them to carry on with their task.

”Elections will hold in the North West and South West regions but ensuring security is the responsibility of the State” says the Assistant Director of ELECAM, Abdoul Karimou.

Political pundits and security analysts have shown concern for the worsening situation in Ambazonia and have expressed doubts the polls could be held under the current climate.
