In a letter dated March 12, 2018, the honourable MP, Harriett Balwin wrote to her colleague of the House of Commons, Honourable Justine Greening on behalf of a southern Cameroonian by name Ivo Kuka. Ivo based in London had challenged his MP to know what she is doing in regards to his suffering people in Ambazonia.
The British legislator was particularly concerned by the escalating tensions in the Federal Republic of Ambazonia and worried about the number of people being forced to flee their homes as a result of the ongoing crisis.
Honourable Balwin reassert the position of the British Government which is poised on seeing a ”reduction in violence” perpetrated by La Republique’s armed forces, the release of all political prisoners and the setting in motion of what she calls ”meaningful process” to help tackle the core issues which led to the present situation as they are.
In her letter, the MP mentioned having visited La Republique from February 13 through 15, met with colonial Prime Minister Yang, all three colonial ministers of External Relations, Territorial Administration, and Defence. She noted the ongoing crisis in the territory of Ambazonia was discussed and she reinforced the need for ”human rights” to be respected.
The old song, calling for ”inclusive and purposeful dialogue” to address grievances was also brought up, but all attempts by UK dignitaries have shown to be futile. She met with some leaders of the Anglophone extraction but her letter did not specify which of them.
The Honourable Harriet Balwin, extended a gesture by promising UK technical assistance to help make that dialogue a possibility and organizing workshops with the help of the British High Commission but all seem to have fallen on deaf ears on the Camerounese camp. She’d urged the colonial Prime Minister Yang to allow access to the Interim Government leaders who since their abduction in Nigeria, have remained incommunicado. Demanding an independent agency to examine them.
She went further to say the UK is ready to help the Cameroons with their own experience when it comes to what Southern Cameroonians are currently going through.
The MP who doubles as Minister of State for Africa, signed off her letter by saying the UK Government is open to working for ”peace and stability” while at the same time urging all parties involved to implore peaceful means to air their concerns.
