Southern Cameroons Community in Ghana Condemns Youth Trafficking by Qnet Syndicate

Accra, Ghana — April 12, 2025 | BaretaNews

The Southern Cameroons (Ambazonia) Community in Ghana has issued a strong public condemnation and official disclaimer denouncing the ongoing trafficking and exploitation of Southern Cameroonian youths by a criminal network operating under the guise of employment, notably associated with Qnet and similar agencies.

In an official release dated April 11, 2025, the Office of the President of the Community in Ghana expressed “profound grief and indignation” following the rescue of 43 trafficked youths by Ghanaian authorities in Kumasi. The victims, mostly young men and women from Southern Cameroons, had been lured into Ghana with false promises of jobs, only to be subjected to inhumane conditions and forced servitude.

The statement identifies Qnet as a “criminal syndicate”, exposing its role in systematically deceiving vulnerable individuals and trapping them in exploitative schemes. The Community’s leadership made it categorically clear that they hold no direct or indirect affiliation with Qnet or any related trafficking entities.

“We are devastated, but sadly, not surprised,” the release stated. “Our community has, over the past years, buried victims, repatriated shattered lives, and offered silent prayers over graves. Each case is a scar on the conscience of a people already torn apart by eight years of brutal armed conflict back home.”

Key Declarations Made by the Southern Cameroons Community in Ghana:

  • Zero affiliation with Qnet or any person/agency involved in human trafficking to or within Ghana.

  • No support or endorsement of travel from Southern Cameroons to Ghana under the pretext of job opportunities.

  • Strong disapproval and rejection of any organization claiming ties with the Southern Cameroons Community in Ghana to facilitate such trafficking.

The Community further appealed to families back home, urging them not to fall prey to these deceptive schemes. The statement stressed that Ghana is “not a land of jobs—it is a land of survival”, warning against sending young people into what has increasingly proven to be a dangerous trap.

Comrade Tamonkia, N T, President of the Southern Cameroons Community in Ghana, signed off the letter, reaffirming their commitment to protecting the dignity and safety of their people. The Community extended gratitude to Ghanaian authorities for their swift action and called for continued collaboration in dismantling these criminal networks.

This urgent message comes amid growing reports of youth trafficking involving Southern Cameroonians across various parts of West Africa, a trend exacerbated by ongoing conflict, economic hardship, and misinformation.

Call to Action

The Southern Cameroons Community in Ghana is calling for increased awareness, vigilance, and cooperation from both homeland and host communities. The survival, dignity, and future of Southern Cameroonian youths, they emphasized, must not be sacrificed to false promises.
