Osih Faults Biya for Ongoing War in Ambazonia

The standard bearer of the Social Democratic Front (SDF), Joshua Osih, on Monday said Cameroun’s President Biya is ”the only one responsible” for the ongoing war declared on the good people of Southern Cameroons-Ambazonia. Osih is expected to challenge Biya in upcoming presidential elections slated for October 7.

Having hailed from the troubled territory of Southern Cameroons, Osih himself is an indigene of Ambazonia and the political upheaval which has befallen the territory since 2016 must be close to his heart.

Before the end of 2017, what initially started as grievance among teachers and lawyers of the Southern Cameroons extraction, had already morphed into an armed encounter between Cameroun’s military and Ambazonia Defence Forces (ADF). Hundreds of civilians are being killed, villages ransacked and razed to the ground, women, and girls raped by soldiers of the Cameroun armed forces and 200,000 people have fled their homes into the bushes and neighbouring Nigeria as refugees.

Taking direct aim at the octogenarian despot, Osih has this to say ”We have a problem with the system and this system has meant we do not have simple political solutions to simple problems. We have a president who does not understand what is happening in Cameroon, who spends most of his time abroad and who thinks that sending the army as he did in the 1960s with UPC can solve this problem. He can’t.”

The legitimacy of the October 7 polls hangs in the balance as Restoration Forces have strongly warned organizers against its conducting the ballot across Southern Cameroons. Osih alongside 7 others will challenge Paul Biya who is seeking his seventh term.

For the first time since the formation of the SDF party in the 1990s, Joshua Osih will be on the party’s ticket which has been graced by chairman John Fru Ndi.
