The Government delegate of the Bamenda city council, Ndumu in the head quarters of the northern zone called for a four hour ghost town or should we say ghost markets today Saturday 26th, August to discuss with traders and parents of Bamenda in a more than 2000 jamb packed all. He ordered all traders in all the markets in the town and sheds along the commercial avenue to assemble at the congress hall for a meeting whose focus was to fight the ghost towns that have been ghosting the towns across Southern Cameroons.

In his discuss, he recognized the president of the Governing council of southern Cameroons H.E Sisiku Ayuk Tabe while acknowledging the work of Mark Bareta and Tapang Ivo in the struggle for the freedom of southern Cameroons. The Government delegate went on to claim that we have our own President Sisiku Ayuk Tabe. The government delegate went on to play North West/South West divide by claiming that Buea, Kumba and Mamfe do not observe Ghost Towns. The traders and parents in the hall shouted and said he is lying. Our people made it clear to him that three days Ghost Towns were respected in those areas. The Government delegate furthered singled out Tapang Ivo Tanku and Mark Bareta. He claims Mark Bareta is in Belgium without papers and he called on our people to not respect or take orders from us. This Ndumu man must be very careful. He went to say that our people should form vigilantes.

Vincent Ndumu, Bamenda Government Delegate

As Ndumu lied to the traders that the southern Zone was no longer respecting the ghost, he was booed by the traders who have seen the ghost being respected everywhere. The traders went on asking him to tell his masters to resolve the problems and also release all abducted. He was made to understand that the children in detention camps in Yaoundé also need to go to school and so should be released. We can say with all certainty that our people understand the need for the sacrifice, know the reason for the sacrifice, and crave the fruits of this sacrifice. We shall all reach the finish line by the help of our God.

One trader who attended wrote ” He even ask us to permit him open the markets on Sundays but the population responded that we are a Christian community and we go to church on Sundays and that we are not going to stop respecting ghost towns till we get our brothers back from jail I was there life .”

Based on this, Mark Bareta, CEO of BaretaNews and Southern Cameroons activist gave a statement naming next week August 28th, 2017.

“..As Ndumu, Biya’s boy called four hours Ghost Towns today to fight ghosts Towns, the people of Bamenda rose up in once voice, defended the struggle and those in jail and resolved that Ghost Towns in Bamenda will continue as they walk out in protest shouting. We, the people of Southern Cameroons cannot thank our parents and traders in Bamenda enough. We heard you all spoke in the hall. Yes, we are proud of you and this cements our position that we are only separated by seas and oceans but we are bonded by the common love to see Southern Cameroons free.
Based on the resilience from our people in Bamenda, we hereby dedicate Monday 28th August Ghost Towns as the “BAMENDA RESILIENCE GHOST TOWNS” in honour of all parents, traders and people in Bamenda for standing tall today and for respecting the struggle. We will not forget you..” Mark Bareta
