Southern Cameroons Independence Is Non-Negotiable-Refugees To Bishops

On 5th June 2018, the Bishop of Mamfe accompanied by Bishop Kleda from Douala ArchDiocese made a stop over in Nigeria Cross River States to visit Southern Cameroons Refugees who have been there since post September 22nd 2017 after they like others went out massively following the calls of the Southern Cameroons Governing Council to call for the release of all those abducted. A move which saw dozens shot to dead and others detained.

The catholic delegation took with them lots of food stuff and medications to visit the refugees, the spokesman of the refugee Mr. Nde Federick while thanking the Catholic Church for their prayers and material support and the fact that they have been speaking and writing on this conflict did not fail to use the opportunity to send a powerful reminder to La Republique Du Cameroun through Bishop Andrew Nkea who led the delegation to Nigeria. Amongst other issues raised, the refugees through their spokesman maintained in very clear terms that the independence of Southern Cameroons is non negotiable and they can only come back home to a free and prosperous Independent Southern Cameroons. To this, they asked the Bishops present to inform La Republique Du Cameroun.

BaretaNews recalls that this is the second time the Bishop Of Mamfe is making a visit to Nigeria to offer help to his flocks and this must be commended. As the Bishop Of the diocese which has seen most of his flocks in another country as refugees , we of this platform think the Bishop is putting words into actions even though we note that politically he like others may be limited to cause any change. We can only ask them to continue writing especially addressing the root cause of this conflict and use all means available to them in pushing the government for negotiations so that they will not have to visit again.

It should be noted that the current crisis began in October 2016 as lawyers and teachers calling for reforms most especially the calls for a two state federation but since then many of its leaders have been abducted, sentenced and most went on exile. The crisis has transformed into a conflict stage with a visible arm struggle between La Republique Du Cameroun Government Forces and what is now known as the Southern Cameroons Ambazonia Restoration Forces. This heightened as Cameroun President Paul Biya had declared war on the people of Southern Cameroons whom he called secessionists and terrorists, a move which made the colonial SDO of Manyu to issue a deportation order thus the massive influx of refugees in Nigeria.

The Government Forces haven been accused by the USA Ambassador to Cameroun Peter Barlerin of targeted killings have continue burning villages including roasting many alive, maiming, with more than 160.000 internal displaced persons living in the forests according to UN figures with more than 30.000 in Nigeria as refugees. No other political parties or figure in the Cameroons have made such a visit to Nigeria to commune and sympathetise with the people, not even the so called Government who claims the country is one and indivisible.

Spokesman letter

BaretaNews must note that the address from the spokesman herein above attached is testimony to the fact that Southern Cameroonians despite the present hardship whether home or abroad are very much determined to see an independent Federal Republic Of Ambazonia.
