Second Assassination Attempt on Trump Foiled: Former President Safe Following Gunshots

By Mark Bareta

In a shocking turn of events on Sunday, former U.S. President Donald Trump was the target of what has been described as a second assassination attempt, though he emerged unscathed. According to his campaign, Trump is safe following reports of gunshots in his vicinity.

The Trump campaign communications director, Steven Cheung, confirmed that Trump is “safe,” but did not provide further details about the incident. The Secret Service also issued a statement on X, acknowledging that they are investigating a “protective incident” involving Trump that occurred shortly before 14:00 EST (19:00 BST).

This incident comes nearly two months after a separate assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania, where a gunman shot at Trump, grazing his ear. The recurrence of such violence highlights the heightened security risks faced by the former president.

In response to the incident, Trump took to social media with a personal message to his supporters, emphasizing his safety and unwavering resolve. “There were gunshots in my vicinity, but before rumors start spiraling out of control, I wanted you to hear this first: I AM SAFE AND WELL!” Trump declared. “Nothing will slow me down. I will NEVER SURRENDER! I will always love you for supporting me. Unity. Peace. Make America Great Again.”

The White House has been briefed on the incident, with both President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris informed about the security breach at Trump International Golf Course, where the former president was reportedly golfing. A statement from the White House read: “The President and Vice President have been briefed about the security incident at the Trump International Golf Course, where former President Trump was golfing. They are relieved to know that he is safe. They will be kept regularly updated by their team.”

Further details have emerged regarding the suspect involved in the incident. The individual, described as a white male in his mid-60s, is now in police custody. According to reports from MSNBC, an AR-style rifle was recovered from the scene. Fox News has confirmed that Secret Service agents fired shots at the gunman before he had the chance to discharge his weapon. The suspect subsequently dropped his gun and fled, but was apprehended shortly thereafter.

The attempt on Trump’s life underscores the persistent threats against high-profile figures and raises concerns about security measures at public events. As investigations continue, authorities are working to piece together the full details of the incident and ensure the safety of all individuals involved.

For now, former President Trump remains secure, and the focus shifts to understanding how such a serious breach of security occurred and what measures will be taken to prevent future incidents.
