St. Joseph’s College, Sasse Shuts Down!
Confirmed information says Cameroon’s oldest college, St. Joseph College, Sasse, is shutting its doors, amidst increasing security concerns.
The Proprietor of the college, cum Bishop of the Buea Diocese, Mgr Immanuel Bushu, disclosed the information this Sunday, March 3, 2019, citing the insecurity to be the main reasons.
According to the Bishop, the continuous armed battle between pro-independence fighters and the Cameroon Defence forces in Bwassa, a village close to Sasse, puts the security of the students at risk.
He indicated that the over 200 students of the institution will be sent to the Christ the King College, CKC Tiko, where there’s relative security. He affirmed that, the students shall write the GCE in their new location.
It should be recalled that in September 2018, unknown gunmen stormed Sasse college at around 3am, and flogged students and school administrators. The incident led to the temporary shutdown of the institution.
This latest shutdown comes to add to the many that have happened in the two English Speaking Regions.
