The released national president of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement (CRM), professor Maurice Kamto says the regime of Paul Biya has committed a fatal error if it thinks his party will give up the fight to reclaim his victory. addressing the crowd after his release, Prof Kamto said, “I tell you one thing, I will never betray you!… I refused to say a word to the press but for you I would… The regime arrested us arbitrarily and kept us in detention for more than 8 months!,” he said

In 2018, professor Maurice Kamto took part in a presidential election in neighbouring La Republique du Cameroun. He was arrested in January this year, for openly contesting against the country’s long time tyrant, Paul Biya who will soon be 40 years in power. Kamto organised a peace protest in which he condemned amongst other things the stilling of his victory during last year’s election, and the embezzlement of funds that were meant for the 2019 African Cup of Nations, whose hosting right was seized from la Republique du Cameroun.

Following intense pressure from the international community, the regime on October 4, announced that professor Maurice Kamto and other officials of his party will benefit from a presidential pardon.

Upon his release, Kamto promise to continue his battle of taking over the country from the 86-year old Paul Biya who has reportedly rigged several elections.
