Cameroon: Lecturers Suspended (4years) for Sexual Harassment- Meet them



The disciplinary board of the University of Yaounde 1 has convicted three lecturers for sexual harassment. Professor Jean Emmanuel Pondi, Secretary General of the University of Yaounde 1, has been waging a big war against this evil on campus. Reports say, sexual harassment has become a cankerworm in State Universities. The case of Yaounde 1 University has been pathetic. Most rectors were afraid to fight such an evil, However, the coming of Prof Pondi has been a relief to female students. Prof Pondi has written extensively on “Sexual Harassment and academic ethics.”

The lecturers suspended are:

  1. Professor Njiale Pierre Marie, lecturer at the Faculty of Arts, Letters and Social Sciences. Njiale Pierre Marie was recorded by a student as he harassed her. He studied at Laval University in Quebec, Canada and at Paris V University in France. He is a member of the Francophone Association of Comparative Education and Vice President of Africain Education Comparée. He is the author of several scholarly publications on education in Central Africa.
  1. Professor Temdjim, Lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (MNF)
  1. Dr. Fridolin Nke , Lecturer at the Department of Philosophy

BaretaNews applauds the move by the authorities in the Yaoundé University to arrest this situation while protecting our female friends, children and family members from sexual harassment. We hope this decision set an example to deter other lecturers from harassing students on Campus. BaretaNews calls on all female students in state Universities to use the power of social media technologies to record any sexual moves from lecturers and/or any other authority.
