Cristiano Ronaldo has announced his retirement from international football, bringing his record-breaking Portugal career towards its conclusion after more than two decades.
The 41-year-old confirmed his decision in a video message on Thursday, 5 November. Sky News and Reuters reported that his departure would follow the November international break.
A farewell to Portugal
In the message, reproduced by Portuguese newspaper A Bola, Ronaldo thanked supporters and those who had accompanied him throughout his international career. He described representing Portugal as a source of pride and said he would continue supporting the national team.
His announcement concerns international football. It does not announce his retirement from club football.
Federation pays tribute
The Portuguese Football Federation thanked Ronaldo in a statement published by A Bola. It credited him with 234 appearances and 146 goals for the senior national team and said arrangements would be made for supporters to pay tribute to him.
Ronaldo made his Portugal debut in August 2003. His international honours include the 2016 European Championship and the Nations League titles of 2019 and 2025.
This is a developing story. BaretaNews will update this report when further details of his farewell are confirmed.
