Jackie Fearnly, a protuberant British Human Rights activist has called on the United Nation Organisations (UNO), to organise a referendum in Southern Cameroons, so the people officially make their choice.
In a strongly worded article published on the Guardian Newspaper (one of UK’s renowned tabloids), Sunday January 7 2018, Jackie Fernley captured the daily ordeals faced by the common Southern Cameroonians. She indicated all of the killings, maiming, and discrimination perpetrated by La Republique du Cameroun (LRC), can be put to a logical end, if the people determine their fate, in a referendum.
“It is high time that the Southern Cameroonians, who have been recognised as a people by the UN, were rescued from injustice, social and economic marginalisation, persecution and the misappropriation of their resources and at long last given a voice. Instead of standing helplessly by and watching the escalation of a genocide, perhaps a helpful step would be if Great Britain could initiate a resolution for a referendum to be conducted through the good offices of the UN with questions to ascertain how many anglophones from NW and SW Cameroon would like to remain in this union, how many would like a true federation (of respected equals) and how many would like complete independence. Another relevant action might be to make it known that Cameroon risks being expelled from the Commonwealth for failing to respect the rule of law, observation of which is a basic requirement for membership.” Jackie expounded.
Jackie indicated that the 56-year marriage between the two Cameroons has been one filled with misery and agony for the minority British Southern Cameroons. She calls on the British and the French to revisit their activities in the two Cameroons before independence. According to her, such union is null and void.
“France, Britain and the UN must bear some responsibility for this unfortunate marriage which has failed so disastrously. Promises of fair and equal treatment have not been kept and Cameroon is a state that is bilingual only in name. Any activity seen as threatening the power of Paul Biya is punished with detention (usually without trial) and brutal treatment, as witnessed by the numbers of Southern Cameroonians who come to claim asylum here and are accepted as clients by Freedom from Torture,” Jackie added.
She narrated that the assimilation scheme of LRC has been progressive, since 1972. She indicated that the people of Southern Cameroons are treated like dogs in their own country, with their voices suppressed by the majority Francophones. According to her, a referendum will tell it all whether the people of Southern Cameroons want to continue cohabiting with LRC, or be autonomous.
“Since decolonisation there have been two plebiscites: the first when the ex-British Southern Cameroons were offered only the choice of joining La République du Cameroun in a federation or of becoming part of Nigeria, then a second vote 10 years later when they were asked if they would like to become part of a unitary state (thus losing the federated status and their star on the flag), and were apparently offered the choice of OUI or YES (i.e. no choice),” Jackie said.
Recounting the recent events, Jackie Fearnly said Paul Biya has applied military suppression to compel the people accept the present status quo. According to her, many Ambazonians have been abducted by the Biya regime and detained in deplorable conditions. She indicated, many imprisoned Ambazonians are not judged fairly, reason for the continuous radicalisation of the common Ambazonian.
“I am in touch with some of those enduring horrible conditions in the notorious, severely overcrowded prison of Kondengui, many of whom have been there for over a year. Every few weeks they are brought before a military tribunal (which can impose the death penalty) but each time they appear, no witnesses are present and no case is brought. Some of them will appear again on 19 January and they are appealing for journalists and human rights organisations to be present to witness this cruel charade. They would like pressure to be brought on the government of Paul Biya to end this inhumane treatment of protesters. While there are so many in prison, and others unaccounted for, there can’t even be any thoughts of dialogue, nor can the thousands of people forced to flee to Nigeria come back while they have no assurance of safety,” Jackie highlighted.
Jackie Fearnly lives in York, Northeast of England, in the county of Yorkshire. She’s a columnist in the Independent and the Guardian, UK’s prominent Tabloids.
She’s an activist who has fought for Southern Cameroons refugees and now writes and fight for the plights of the indigenous people.

Thank you very much mami…

CONTRY MEN PUT THIS IN YOUR BRAIN….NO REFERENDUM IN CAMEROON WITHOUT FRENCH PART OF THE COUNTRY…IF U.N WANT REFERENDUM OR WHAT EVER THEY GONNA ORGANIZE IN THE FORMER ” KAMERUN ” TERRITORY, DONT THINK YOU GONNA GO WITH A PART OF COUNTRY LIKE THAT,YOU STILL HAVE AGBORKEM SOMTHING GERMAN IN SW, WHICH MEAN WE SHARE A GERMAN TERRITORY TOGHETER, WE GONNA FIGHT TILL THE LAST MAN…THANK YOU BUHARI
Jackie highlighted the truth about the present situation in Ambasonia. biya, the blood thirsty president of french cameroun, la republic du Cameroun connived with dignitaries of the commonwealth, the UN to look the other way as he continues his killing spree, maiming and imprisonment of Southern Cameroonians for simply asking peacefully that he addresses their concerns. Before the end of 2017, biya declared war on us forcing many of Ambasonians to take cover in Nigeria as refugees. He is killing and burning homes now while the UN watches with glee. Ambasonians are dying by biya’s bullets and will continue to die since his only solution to political problems is the gun. We better die than continue to be slaves of biya or La republique due cameroun. We need a referendum NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We can’t co-exist with this evil regime!!
Thank God we still got some good people on earth…
We pray more people add their voices so Southern Cameroon be completely liberated from LRC
We shall prevail.
There is no turning back at all, nothing can stop us.
We are not the same people.
The cry of this lady is like the second coming of Christ i can imagine somebody of a different nationality feeling our pain more than some of us.Voices of this nature will increase pressure to Mr Biya and his allies.Let’s take this as a forward ever and continue with the struggle.
If the UN and other European powers will redressed the pain they have put the people of Southern Cameroons over 56years where they were denied the privileged of becoming an automous state, then the UN will have to organised a referendum to decide the future of the present Southern Cameroons by initiating the core questioned they rejected on the people that is, becoming an independent state.
This only can they do to save the people they have kept for over 56years in bondge. A referendum will be the only Good Faith for the Anglophones in Cameroon.
We want our freedom to independence
Give it to us
This will ask in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ
Amen.
Thank you madam for inciting the UN on this issue.
I encourage all Ambazonians. Go to the Guardian webpage there you can answer the letter of Jacky Fearnly. Further write to your local or national newspapers (if you are in the diaspora). More than before we have to make noise.
The lady is repeating part of my posting
but i refuse anh referandum. there wasnt any union but an invasion and occupation
by cameroun military. no treaty was signed. soo the whole charade was null and void. southern cameroons have declared restoration of their ambazonia
state. the international community can only force cameroun to withdraw from ambazonia by recognizing it and giving it the mikitary and diplomatic support. stop
this childish merry go round referandum here. whos kidding who. 3 referandum. for what?
Fools
