The management of Laquintinie Hospital in Douala has firmly denied allegations circulating on social media that a newborn awaiting surgery was abandoned within the hospital premises. The claims emerged from a viral video that triggered widespread public outrage and concern.
In an official statement released on February 6, 2026, the hospital administration described the accusations as false and misleading. The Director of Laquintinie Hospital stated that the infant received appropriate medical attention in line with established hospital procedures.
According to the statement, the baby was examined by a neurosurgeon on February 4 and was subjected to all required biological and radiological examinations, including a brain CT scan. Hospital officials explained that the footage shared online, filmed on February 5, captured the child’s mother waiting after collecting medical test results, not an act of abandonment as claimed.
The hospital further disclosed that on February 6, the infant was again reviewed by both a neurosurgeon and an anesthesiologist, confirming continuous medical monitoring and follow up.
Laquintinie Hospital management strongly condemned what it termed a deliberate manipulation of information and warned that it reserves the right to take legal action against those responsible for damaging the institution’s reputation.
Reassuring the public, the hospital emphasized that a competent multidisciplinary medical team is fully in charge of the child’s care. Management also urged the public to remain vigilant against misinformation and reminded patients and families of the hospital’s permanent listening and complaint mechanisms.
