Breaking: Anglophone Magistrate on the run, others arrested
La Republique security forces are now arresting any Anglophone magistrates who render an opinion on the current deplorable condition in Southern Cameroons. Justice Sokem Ngale Mborh was arrested yesterday in Buea. Magistrate Chi Valentine Buma is on the run as BaretaNews writes.
Last week Justice Ayah Paul Abine was arrested. Today some judges of the Supreme Court of Cameroun have openly protested the arrest of Lord Justice Ayah Paul Abine by secret service agents loyal to the 83-year-old dictator, Paul Biya. According to the judges, Ayah’s arrest occurred in violation of article 629 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
The Supreme Court judges pointed out that the nation is now being run like a banana republic. The leaders of the judiciary also indicated via a Yaoundé-based tabloid that the legal provision to which a judge of the Supreme Court or a magistrate of the judicial order is liable to be charged with an offense has been violated.
These arrests add to the that of the Consortium leaders Dr. Agbor Nkongho, Dr. Fontem Neba, and youth activist Mancho Bibixy. Scores of Southern Cameroonians are arbitrarily arrested on a daily basis for voicing support of the Anglophone problem. The regime has embarked on a spree of arresting intimidating anyone with an opinion on the Anglophone issue.
Amnesty International has condemned these arrest and calls for the release of all arrested. The African Union has also offered to help.
The situation in Anglophone Cameroon remains tense. Schools and courts remain closed. The population has embarked on weekly Ghost towns ( no movement, shops, and businesses remain closed, no taxis, people stay home) on Mondays and Tuesdays.
