In a press release to the public, the government of Botswana has expressed its dissatisfaction and have summoned the US Ambassador to Gaborone to enquire if Botswana was among the ”shithole countries”

“The government of Botswana, today summoned the U.S. ambassador to Botswana to express its displeasure at the alleged utterances made by the President of the U.S., Donald Trump, when he referred to African countries and others as “shithole countries” during a meeting,” the statement reads.

Considering that there are Botswana nationals residing in the US, and for the fact that some of Batswana may wish to visit the US. the statement went further “The Botswana government has also enquired from the U.S. government through the ambassador, to clarify if Botswana is regarded as a “shithole” country.

Officials in government ”wondering why’ Trump chose such word to describe a country that has been nothing but friendly toward the US on all fronts.

While a congressional delegation will be visiting the country later this January, Botswana officials want America to know that they find Trump’s comments ahead of the lawmakers’ visit to be “highly irresponsible, reprehensible, and racist.”

Botswana, a member of the South African Development Community and the African Union, urged all progressive countries around the globe to condemn Trump’s remarks in the strongest possible terms. Now it’s left for other countries on the continent to follow suit.
