The Visit of Shame to Italy Finally Ends

Notwithstanding the blatant half-truths and deafening propaganda of CRTV, Cameroon Tribune and even the Presidency of the Colonial Republic of Cameroon in the course of President Biya’s visit to Italy, there is little to show. The truth is quite easy to discern:

1. It was a state visit only in name. What unfolded during the visit is a shameful make-belief by so-called “lobbyists”, whose real job is to “shine the shit” that is the Yaounde colonial regime. The goal? Pretend that Mr. Biya’s visit, billed simply to enable the latter return the nice gesture of last year when the Italian President Sergio Mattarello visited the Republic of Cameroon, is somewhat a state visit.

2. Want proof? The leader of the colonial government of Yaounde did not get a hearing from the real power brokers of Italy: the government. For example, the colonial ruler did not get an audience with the Prime Minister of Italy!!! This is why CRTV has not stopped trying so desperately to make a mountain out of the molehill that was the audience (of consolation?) between Mr. Biya and the Italian President. It does not amount to much! If you are still in doubt, check out what Article 87 of the Italian Constitution says about the very limited and highly symbolic powers of an Italian President.

3. In the absence of the real and powerful economic and trade actors and policy makers of Italy, CRTV bought into the bull sold by the so-called “lobbyists” (paid for doing nothing) when they share images of the Lion Man attending what they passed for a “Doing Business in Cameroon” workshop. What was most telling on these images is the absence of members of the Italian government and the presence of only a handful of members of the Italian business community. CRTV may want to know that the blessings of any Italian President to deals struck does not have any real bearing on the conclusion of such deals. Again, if in doubt, check out what it says in Article 89 of the Italian Constitution.

4. Given that videos and petitions from the Movement for the Restoration of the Independence of Southern Cameroons (MoRISC) preceded the arrival of the Lion Man in Rome, and that our petitions, photos and videos told of the horrors visited on the people of Southern Cameroons by the colonial regime of Yaounde, even the audience with Pope Francis focused on the annexation of Southern Cameroons by La Republique du Cameroun (LRC). The Lion Man, according to the debriefing we have received, was obliged to visualize photos and video of the crimes against humanity perpetrated by his terrorist forces of insecurity.

5. One final demand that Pope Francis had of the Cameroonian presidential couple was, prior to administering Papal blessings on them, to ask them to be the first to pray for themselves and the Cameroons. We can only hope that the prayed to Living God – capital L, capital G – and not to the gods – small g – whose thirst for the blood of innocent Cameroonians has proven unquenchable over the past 35 years.

Incapable of feeling shame or fear of God or of any kind, the colonial regime of Yaounde did not miss the chance offered by their outreach in Rome to serve notice that the gerontocracy which has been misruling the Cameroons for the past 56 years has no intention of letting go of power. During the so-called workshop, Mr. Biya mocked the frequent change of government in Italy by insinuating that the regime’s 35-year reign of terror constitutes political stability. During the audience with Pope Francis, the regime once more signaled that young people who are, by far, the vast majority of Cameroonians, have no place in the plans of the regime, overloaded with political deadwood and what Mr. Biya tries to portray as wise, old men like him, playing god.

Whether or not the colonial regime of Yaounde understands; whether or not that regime accepts it; nothing can alter the fact that the Sovereign People of Southern Cameroons (independent on 1st October 1961) is bent on restoring the international sovereignty of their country. Our country is different from La Republique du Cameroun (LRC), independent on the 1st of January 1960 within international boundaries that were frozen on that Independence Day in keeping with Article 4(b) of the Constitutive Act of the African Union. We, the People of Southern Cameroons, evoke International Law to justify our case. We call for the full and complete implementation of the United Nations General Assembly Resolution 1608 of 21 April 1961; the full implementation of Principles VII and VIII of United Nations General Assembly Resolution 1541 of 15 December 1960 and recall that LRC voted YES for that resolution which recognizes the right of Southern Cameroons to separate peacefully from LRC. We evoke our rights under Article 76(b) of the Charter of the United Nations and other articles of the African Union Constitutive Act which forbid external domination and/or colonization of any people (Southern Cameroonians) by another people (Cameroonians).

Aluta continua!

Spokesperson, MoRISC
