Manyu SDO, Joseph Oum II has decreed another war on Manyu Denizens. In a frustrated mood after locking down Mamfe on Friday January 11, 2019, to force everyone for a meeting, the SDO fumed that he would order all Cameroun soldiers within his jusrisdiction to exterminate and clean the local population. The colonial dictator was speaking in Mamfe Town Hall, capital city of Manyu County. He maintained that the people of Manyu will feel the brunt and wrath of the Cameroun military from Tuesday January 15, 2019 should they respect Ghost Town on Monday January 14, 2019.
“The army hasn’t started fighting any War just yet, I will ask soldiers to exterminate you” Manyu SDO threatened. The SDO cried out stating that no other County observed a 4-day Ghost Town last week except Manyu. This is coming after Manyu specifically and specially observed a 4 days shutdown last week. Restoration Forces in Manyu on 1st January, 2019 in an audio circulated message ordered that all government institutions must shut down except for banks, churches and hospitals. It seems the SDO will help facilitate these and even cause more harm. “I will shutdown hospitals, health centers and the entire Division so that none would have access to medical care, foods and other basic amenities, if you continue respecting Ghost towns”, Joseph Oum II fumed and threatened locals
It should be recalled that Ghost Towns has been a tradition since the Cameroun-Southern Cameroons conflict began. It first started on 9th Jauary 2017 called by the Anglophone Cameroon Civil Society Consortium. During this moment, all shops are closed, no movements and people are asked to stay home. It was a non violent means during the early days of the revolution. It still remain now as every mondays is ghosted as well as any other days Southern Cameroons leaders are arraigned in Yaounde military courts.
This is not the first time locals in Manyu have come under threats from the colonial officers in Manyu. However, many locals who spoke to BaretaNews say nothing can stop them from observing the Mondays traditional ghost towns. Manyu Restoration Forces are also watching.
