Two civilians from the Kom community and a soldier have been killed in an attack on an army checkpoint in Ekombe Liongo, Mbonge Subdivision, South West Region.

The incident occurred on Friday morning, November 6, 2026.

According to information gathered, one of the civilian victims, identified as Mr. Gilbert, was a cocoa buyer. He reportedly left home that morning with his brother-in-law, Mr. Linus, on a motorcycle. The two men were heading to Mbonge to purchase farm produce.

Along the way, they reportedly encountered armed men who requested a ride to their control post. The two civilians agreed, unaware of the danger awaiting them.

However, as they approached the checkpoint, the group came under heavy gunfire. The attack killed all three men at the scene.

Reports further indicate that the attackers beheaded the soldier and took his head away.

Later that Friday evening, a group of separatist fighters reportedly returned with the severed head and dumped it in the street.

Meanwhile, authorities have yet to identify the deceased soldier publicly. They have also not issued an official statement on the attack.
