Buea, Ambazonia – Nearly a week after the tragic rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl in Buea, the capital of Ambazonia, Mark Bareta, CEO of Bareta News (BN), has joined human rights advocates in demanding justice for the young victim.
Details of the Incident
According to local media reports and verified video evidence obtained by BN, a 15-year-old Form Two student allegedly raped his eight-year-old niece multiple times. The primary school pupil endured the abuse in silence after being threatened by her abuser. However, overwhelmed by pain, she confided in her aunt—the suspect’s mother—who reportedly failed to act.
The victim’s condition was discovered by her teacher when she was unable to stand during class due to severe bleeding. Despite wearing diapers, the blood flow was uncontrollable. The girl disclosed the abuse to her teacher, revealing that her aunt had ignored her earlier pleas for help. She was rushed to Buea Zonal Hospital but succumbed to her injuries two days later. Her body now lies in the mortuary.
Bareta’s Response
In an emotionally charged interview, Mark Bareta expressed profound grief for the victim’s family. “Our thoughts and prayers are with them. It is heartbreaking that such an innocent girl, a future asset to Ambazonia, died under such cruelty,” he said.
Bareta urged Ambazonian freedom fighters in Fako to investigate swiftly and ensure justice. “We have lost too many to colonial violence. We cannot tolerate further losses under such inhumane conditions,” he stated, emphasizing the need for accountability.
Amid reports that colonial police have arrested the suspect and his mother, who allegedly concealed the abuse, Bareta expressed skepticism about the investigation’s integrity. “I fear colonial forces might accept bribes and release the culprits,” he said gravely. He stressed that justice for the victim’s family is essential, adding, “It will serve as a strong deterrent to others engaging in such barbaric acts.”
Call for Action
The incident has sparked outrage across Ambazonia and beyond, with human rights advocates amplifying calls for accountability. Bareta’s plea underscores the urgency of addressing gender-based violence and ensuring perpetrators face consequences in the region.
