AMBAZONIA FINDS A NEW ALLY AS AUSTRALIA CRITICIZES CAMEROON’S HUMAN RIGHTS RECORDS DURING UN MEETING

Australia has joined the United States, Britain and dozens of other nations in criticizing Cameroun’s human rights records. Interior Minister Peter Dutton pointed out allegations of torture, arbitrary detentions, killings and attacks on civilians by security forces .These issues amongst others were raised against Cameroun at the United Nations Human Rights Council. Australia is the latest country to have raised its voice loudly. Ambazonia may just have found an ally in Australia.

“Australia notes with alarm the recent outbreak of violence between Cameroonian security forces and Protestant minority groups in the South and Northwestern parts of the country,”said Australian diplomat Alexander Chapman.It should be noted that Australia just began its three-year term as a member of the United Nations Human Rights Council

The United States Diplomat also echoed the same worries in their statement at the UN hearing. “We remain concerned about the credible allegations of human rights violations and abuses by security forces,”said US diplomat Huda Ibrahim.

In defense Cameroun representative at the hearing tried to defend the country battered image “There is peace in this region, it is not the whole region or the whole country that was involved in an uprising saying they want a republic. This is a community that has taken the whole country hostage and has sensitized the international community, sometimes wrongly,to what they call repression in the English-speaking region.” Cameroun Foreign Minister Lejeune Mbella Mbella defended

Mbella Mbella went further to reinterate that Cameroun military had been torturing without government authorization.”One hundred and eight officials have been brought before the courts for acts of torture or cruel,inhuman and degrading treatment in the performance of their duties and they have been sentenced,”he said,adding that the armed forces were learning to respect their obligations.

The stance from Mbella has been rubbished by the United States Ambassador statement on May, 17th, 2018 after meeting President Paul Biya at the Unity Palace.Mr Barlerin,US Ambassador clearly accused Cameroun government and military of targeted killings, burning of homes and looting,issues which are all tantamount to war crimes.It is thus right to say that Mbella was just saving the country face at the UN

Recently several international media and other diplomats have condemned Cameroun government human rights record especially as they carry out scothing earth policies in the Former British Southern Cameroons cum Ambazonia.
Ambazonians across the globe have increased calls for the Interim Government of the Federal Republic of Ambazonia to follow up on the US Ambassador’s statement as well as building an ally with Australia.The people of Ambazonia may just have found an ally in Australia.
