Cameroon press is under attack. Freedom of expression and investigative Journalism is under attack. One nincompoop in the name of Ako Muller Arrey threatened a Cameroonian Publisher and Journalist resident in Mamfe with a gun. Mr. Eric Tataw, a refined journalist was seriously battered with blood oozing out of his mouth and nose. His only crime being that disgraced Ako Muller does not want the journalist to publish a story on how he has crippled the Mamfe Credit Union and left farmers and struggling citizens wanting and crying.
Mr. Eric Tataw in his own words wrote:
“…Yesterday at noontime (October 11th, 2016), I was handed a death threat by this man, Ako Muller Arrey. It’s alleged that he’s one of those who owes and has flattened the credit unions in Manyu. He then walked to me saying that he owns a gun and that should I (National Telegraph) publish anything on credit unions with his name on any of the sentences, he’s going to bring me down in blood with his gun. He added that whether in Cameroon, anywhere in Africa, Europe, and America, he controls bloodshed cohorts.
Imagine those farmers, buyam sellams with little savings can’t have access to their monies, yet an alleged heavy debtor with probably no license to carry a gun, goes around threatening a journalist par excellence, known and authorized by the Republic of Cameroon to own and Publish papers.
But my message is this; National Telegraph will publish the Credit Union story, even if it means is the last before our blood runs as a sacrifice for the much oppressed to get their monies……”
It seems Mr. Ako Muller went through with his threats. He attacked and battered Eric Tataw.
Tataw Reported on Tuesday 19th October 2016 ” …My blood has just started oozing. My crime is that Agbor Muller Akoarrey who owes since over 10years now and has flattened the credit union thinks I must die if I have to publish that story. Come to think of it, is he the only one who owes? Today, he intercepted me at Vatican Express, Mamfe Mile II Park and gave me a snake-beating. He pulled me down from a bike and started by carrying a smear campaign against me; shouting that I have picked from his pockets, before pulling me to the Badi River and then torturing me.I lost a lot of blood with several of my teeth out of gum. I might not be able to chew for about the next 30 or more days but the credit union story must be published come rain, come shine!..”
BaretaNews condemns this act from Mr. Muller, no Journalist should suffer this while doing his/her job. We call on Journalist associations in the Cameroons to follow this through and ensure that justice is seen to be done.
