Southern Cameroons Refugees forgotten in Nigeria?
A popular German News Agency DW, has captured the humanitarian situation of Southern Cameroons/ Ambazonian refugees in Nigeria, who have fled the genocidal atrocities of the terrorist regime of La Republique du Cameroun (LRC). The News Agency notes that not only do these refugees struggle to find enough to eat, but they also have to come to terms with their traumatic experiences.
The refugees in their daily experiences are confronted with issues relating to inadequate portable water supply, food and shelter. As the UNHCR, the Nigerian Government, host state governments and the Ambazonian diaspora continue to make efforts to assist these externally displaced citizens, the refugees are also by themselves taking individual initiatives and survival tactics to help themselves in terms of getting portable water and shelter.
Citing a Priest and coordinator of the Caritas Justice, Development and Peace Committee (CJDPC), Remigius Ihyula, DW reports that “New people are arriving every day”, an indication that the number of Southern Cameroonians crossing the borders will soon go beyond one hundred thousand. Presently, there are more than 60 000 refugees present in Nigeria, of which only 21 have so far been registered by the UNHRC.
The refugees and the local authorities, as well as international organizations, do not expect the conflict in Cameroon to stop anytime soon. They believe the number of refugees will increase and so, the need for more resources to cater for the daily basic needs of these refugees.
Recently, the refugees in a strongly worded letter to the head of the UNHCR, Nigeria and the Nigerian government rejected a planned so-called humanitarian visit by the colonial regime of Paul Biya. They charged the regime to do needful by addressing the conflict according to the prescriptions of the international community so that they can return peacefully to their homes. It is not hunger that took them to Nigeria but the brutality and genocidal atrocities of the very rogue regime now pretending as humanitarians in order to identify their settlements for another massacre.
