Communities across Ambazonia are intensifying efforts to tackle growing drug abuse among young people. Residents say the practice is increasingly affecting families and communities.

Bambili, a major university town in Tubah District, Mezam County, is the latest community to take action. Residents reportedly confronted several young people accused of consuming harmful drugs.

According to local sources, dozens of youths were reportedly found consuming marijuana on Monday. Residents stormed their reported hideout and confronted those present.

The incident reportedly involved physical assaults, which cannot be independently verified. Community members reportedly warned the youths against continued drug consumption.

Residents also threatened to ban repeat offenders from the community. However, community leaders are being urged to address the problem without resorting to violence.

The Bambili action follows similar community efforts in other parts of Ambazonia. Mamfe, Buea, Tombe and surrounding communities have also raised concerns about drug abuse.

Mothers in several communities have particularly condemned the growing practice. They say drug abuse is pushing some youths away from school and productive activities.

Residents further accuse drug consumption of contributing to theft and other criminal activities. They say some young people spend their limited resources buying harmful substances.

Meanwhile, communities are also warning those involved in selling harmful drugs. Residents want dealers to stop targeting young people and threatening the future of their communities.

Community leaders are increasingly calling for stronger awareness campaigns and support for affected youths. They say prevention and rehabilitation must accompany efforts to curb drug abuse.
