Common Law lawyers are ignoring the call of the Minister of Justice invitation to attend a meeting in Yaounde. They want every meeting to take place in Buea or Bamenda amidst other demands. However, Barrister Ntumfor Nico Halle, Bar General Assembly President has said he will attend today’s meeting in Yaounde, no matter what.

Cameroon Journal reports that Nico Halle spoke with their reporter by phone from Douala last Saturday that he won’t stay away from the meeting, arguing that “staying away from dialogue won’t solve the problem.” He said he will attend the meeting alongside four others; two men and two women of the legal profession from the North West and South West Regions- Cameroon Journal reports.

According to the Douala-based legal practitioner, there is nothing wrong in attending the meeting convened by the Minister of Justice. “Dialogue is the ultimate solution to the ongoing Common Law lawyers’ grievances,” Halle pointed out insistently.

Halle had on Sunday 20th November Cameroon Calling said he is 100% in support of the Common Law Lawyers’ cause, but his colleagues have largely described him as a “traitor.”

He admitted that Government has exhibited negligence vis-à-vis the ongoing strike. He maintained that the growing clamour for a separate Bar Council for the Common Law system is very genuine and added that public manifestation on the street in protest is a form of expression recognized the world over- Cameroon Journal writes.

It should be recalled that the Minister of Justice has scheduled a Press conference for today Tuesday 22nd November at 10am.
