It is no longer news that stories about fake certificates in the University of Buea including that of Mayor Ekema Patrick Esunge was made known on June 24th, 2017, first by BaretaNews. As a result more than 100 support staff fished out with fake certificates, 68 responded to answer the charges, the rest escaped. Amongst the fake certificates is the driver of former VC, Dr. Nalova. His sister in Faculty of Health Sciences is caught also into the dragnet .

It is also no longer news that print media in Southern Cameroons such as the Rambler and Post Newspaper all based in Buea, Capital of the Southern Cameroons picked up the story to investigate, and this led to the Post Newspaper, in its July 7th, 2017 weekend edition writing partly that ” Our findings showed that a candidate in the name of Ekema Patrick Esunge sat for the GCE seven times. He started sitting for the exams in 1995 and failed. In 1996, he sat again for the exam at the Molyko External and passed in one subject; History D with an ‘E’ Grade. After that, he made several attempts every other year, changing combinations comprising Economics, History, Geography and French at different times, and in the different centres to wit: Molyko External, Muea External, Kumba External. He gave up sitting for the exam after the 2007 session which was the 7th and last time..”

Consequently on Friday, July 2017, the regional commissioner of Human Rights in the Southern zone in Southern Cameroons, Mr. Christopher Tambe Tiku at the regional Human Rights Office in the presence of the Press granted a Press Conference where he concluded that the Mayor of Buea Municipality, Mr. Patrick Ekema faked his certificates and got entrance into the University of Buea. He said his findings have been submitted to the University of Buea awaiting actions from the University. BaretaNews brandished the details of Ekema’s results as forwarded by the Regional Board to the Commission of Human Rights. It indicated that the Mayor had neither Ordinary Level nor Advanced Level. It brought to questions those who were in the University top management at the time he gained admission to do Bachelor and Masters degree programs.

Currently, BaretaNews has been forwarded a contact card which Mr. Mayor uses. It should be recalled that our source which made this contact card to us stipulated that Mayor Ekema personally handed over to him this card. The card stipulates that Mr. Mayor has a Phd already in Public Administration from Azusa Pacific University based in California in USA. Considering the recent investigations into this recent scandal, one doubts on what basis the said PhD was obtained. It is therefore imperative for the University of Buea to act swiftly and take appropriate steps to safe guard its graduates. The Human Rights Commission has done its job. However, BaretaNews now make known the contacts of this University so that those reading us should email, tweet and call this University to take appropriate steps: Website: www.apu.edu ; Tweeter: @azusapacific Phone: 626 969 3434

BaretaNews thinks it is high time the people of Buea call for the resignation of Mr. Patrick Ekema. This issue must not be taken lightly because it hurt us directly and our standing in the international community

  1. How can someone fake everything in his life?

The most damaging thing is not that he did all these faking but that despite all the facts, somehow he is still Mayor. This is very, very damaging to a people image. In other nations he will be long gone so as to reduce the impact of his action on the people. This is very bad.

  2. To my knowledge Azusa pacific does not offer a Phd in Public Administration. However, I will call the school just to make sure and report back to you.
