“I Have Heard The Cry Of My People And I Am Concerned About Their Suffering!” (I couldn’t post this from my hometown yesterday)!

Dear friends, to satisfy the curiosity of many who are bombarding me with “Who is this Babila who is writing nonsense?” My simple response is that I grew up in poverty but very sensitive to pain and injustice.
By the grace of God, I studied in South Africa and most of my professors (both laity and clergy) were those who played active roles to decry apartheid! They were often locked up but they kept on. I studied African Christianity and one of its core courses is Liberation Theology whose streams include Black theology of the USA, Black theology of South Africa, Latin American theology of liberation and Feminist theology of Liberation. You may guess for yourself what that means!

In the nineties, together with Mr. Peter Esoka, I co-produced and co-presented “Reflections” over CRTV National Radio. The slot was temporarily suspended because I made utterances that weren’t pleasing to some ears. Now you know!

The cry for the liberation of oppressed people neither begins today nor is it going to end tomorrow. God sanctioned this cry for liberation when he told Moses, “I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out… and I am concerned about their suffering. So I have come down to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land into a good and spacious land…” Since God’s earthly works is achieved mainly through human agencies, he commissioned Moses, “I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt.”

Despite his omnipotence, God didn’t consider the task to be an easy one. So he said, “But I know that the king of Egypt will not let you go unless a mighty hand compels him…” (3:1-12&19).
So??? One day Pharaoh had to allow the Israelites to leave. Even so, soon after, he still pursued them and you know what happened to him and his army!

My friend, let me repeat that those whose strength depends on weapons are helpless without those weapons! When the oppressed are confident that God is on their side, their fears of kalashinkovs are banished! When they have gotten to that point of no return, be sure they are bound to cross the Red Sea! God has the final decision over the lives of all humanity; including the Pharaoh’s! Pharaoh, please listen to Moses and let go the Israelites!
