Penal Code Revision: I Cannot in Good Conscience Vote this Law - Joshua Osih

Hon. Joshua Osih of the Social Democratic Front has expressed outraged over the Eseka train accident that reportedly claimed the lives of more the hundred Cameroonians. The SDF MP say the October 21st tragedy that also left more than 600 people seriously injured including other disasters and the many scandals that have rocked the nation were all due to bad governance.

Joshua Osih observed that the Commission ofINQUIRY established by the President of the Republic, Paul Biya was inconsequential, “Especially as we are still awaiting the results of other investigations launched in the same way, about missing luggage at the World Cup 1994 in the United States and the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, the case of Vanessa Tchatchou, or the tragedy that resulted in the death of Monique Koumateke at the Laquintinie hospital in Douala.”
The Social Democratic Front MP who also moonlights as Vice president of the same political party told Jeune Afrique that the Yang Philemon commission was a waste of time and resources and should be disqualified from conducting the investigations because “the CPDM administration is heavily involved in this catastrophe.”

Joshua Osih, stated that the government must make public the terms of reference which was assigned to the Camrail and also the terms of the privatization of the Cameroon Railway Company that was once our national pride. “The Cameroonian people have the right to know how much the company was sold, who the shareholders are and who represents state shares and the identity of the buyers. Transparency in public governance must be inORDER .

The SDF Vice President revealed that “We have had 33 years of all-out improvisation where it all boiled down only to keep the Prince in power. Nothing has been done for the people. What is happening is the result of the lack of leadership. There must be a legitimate leadership through free, credible and transparent elections. We have no need of an illegitimate president who governs by proxy, to the point of being unable to hold regular cabinet meetings. The last was held two years ago! “.

The SDF MP, concluded that the current disaster is generally the result of bad governance, amid corruption and misappropriation of public funds. “Cameroon primarily needs a real law against illicit enrichment. Section 66 of the Constitution, which dates back more than twenty years, provides that any holder of an elective office must make a declaration of assets at the beginning and the end of his term. But President Biya is yet to sign its implementing decree.”
