The Government of Cameroon with the technical assistance of UNESCO has embarked on a series of projects to renovate community radio stations in some areas in the country. The project which will cost some three billion CFAF will comprise the setting up of 15 new community radio stations and the renovation of 21 others.
It was therefore to inaugurate the first of the 12 already renovated community radio stations that Communication Minister, Issa Tchirolma Bakary travelled to Sa’a in the Lekie Division of the Centre Region. The Government of Cameroon has opted to reinforce the decentralisation process through these community radio that are effective in mobilising the local population.
M’alli FM of Sa’a which is the first in the series has been upgraded into a multimedia centre thanks to expertise from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO). This explains why accompanying the Minister of Communication to Sa’a, was the visiting President of the 38th General Conference of UNESCO, Stanley Mutumba Simataa.
